Coping with cravings

Developing a Plan

By thinking about cravings and how you can better manage them while you are sober, you can empower yourself to avoid indulging them when they do occur. You probably already do some things to refrain from indulging in Tina. Acknowledge these things and think about them. What works well and what doesn’t work so well?

Your answers to the questions below can help you develop a coping plan for cravings. We suggest you focus on a high-risk situation because if you can develop a plan for the most challenging situation, you will be able to apply it to all situations. Imagine that situation now. Answer the following questions in as much detail as possible.

1. What will you do to distract yourself?

2. What positive self-talk will you give yourself?

3. Who and where are you going to seek support from?

4. What else can you do in this situation?

Keep your responses. Refer to them and update regularly. This is your plan.

TIP: You can go through the same process to develop plans for other high risk situations, but for now focus on just one.
