Cold Turkey

I'm looking to cut down on my Tina use, which is basically 2x a month. I know it's bad for me. I don't think I can quit cold turkey because I'd still like to PnP with it sometimes. Is this possible or am I going to have to give it up and never go back?

If you're concerned about your use there are always different options to try out and if one doesn't work, you can try something else.

Cutting down is an option lots of people try first because it's the least drastic. You should decide ahead of time what you mean by cutting down and really define that goal. How often would you feel comfortable using? How much money is okay to spend? How much time are you ok giving to a PnP experience?

If you impose definite limits then you have something concrete to measure your difficulties or success against. A lot of times people find it's important to their success with a reduction goal to avoid specific situations or moods, like not using when you're alone or depressed. Often talking your goal over with someone you trust is a good way of keeping yourself committed to it. It's helpful to have someone remind you if you typically don't reach your goal once you get started. It may be a good idea to decide ahead of time what your decision will be if you aren't reaching your goal. How much time are you going to give yourself to try to reduce before you try a different option?

If you find that over time that despite your best efforts your use is always out of control and you seldom, if ever, reach your goal then you might be smart to consider complete abstinence as a better fit for you. If that feels really overwhelming, consider giving yourself a period of time (3 months or so) to clear your head and explore some new avenues. If you keep using more over time, it gets harder to make changes so it's much better not to wait too long before making a decision.
