my view...

It’s a shame none of you people really know anything about recovery.  The party is over when you start using crystal.  No one needs drugs have a fun and a successful life, using Crystal is a cope-out and your site simply continues to endorse safe using practices, which are impossible to maintain when people use meth.  I feel great sadness when people see a site like yours and therefore assume it’s okay to use drugs as long as their teeth aren’t falling out or they can no longer function at work.  Very sad indeed.  Perhaps you guys need to hear that gay men don’t need to use drugs to have a great life.  Period.  Very disappointing.

Thanks for sending us your views.  It seems you feel strongly about information that seems to condone drug use.  In fact, we don't condone crystal meth use at all.  As counsellors who try and help clients manage significant impacts from Tina use, or as former users ourselves, we tend to see and know the worst case scenarios.  However, not everyone has that experience, or is at that stage of use.

Not everyone is ready to stop, and with this drug it tends to be a long process to reaching this point. In the meantime, we want to make sure people are as safe as they can be until they reach the point where they can say they would like to stop. Unfortunately, no one other than the user themselves can make this decision. We do know that negative/ punitive messaging tends to not be effective and felt we needed a different approach.

Therefore, we provide harm reduction information; practical, pragmatic information that can help people manage the real and significant risks while they are using.  Why?  Because it works.
We don't stop there however.  We facilitate access to support for guys who want to stop using. We also provide unvarnished information about the risks of using to those who may be considering it, including an emphasis on Tina's highly addictive nature.

In addition, we provide a series of comprehensive articles for lovers, friends and families that provide information about the very real and sometimes tragic complications that result from Tina use.  HiMyNameIsTina.com is demonstration of a community that cares about those among us who have been impacted by crystal meth.
