How many gay men in Toronto use meth?

It's estimated that between 6 and 22 percent of gay men in Toronto have used meth in the past year. Do you know of an accurate figure?
- T.B.

Response from: NICK

It is likely impossible to generate an accurate figure for a number of reasons: it is hard to estimate the size of the gay community; it is then hard to determine how many of those may or may not use drugs; and then harder to determine who has never tried meth, who is actively using and who has stopped using. Different numbers are generated depending on the selection of people you ask and the ways in which questions are framed. When combining various different surveys and by making comparisons with other geographical areas and communities, it is probable that about 10% of gay men in Toronto have tried the drug at some point.

To better understand who is using what drugs, and where and how often they are using, a survey is being conducted as part of the Hi! My Name Is Tina website.
