Is "Tina" jib?
I used to party a bit with crystal when we went to raves
a few years ago but we always called crystal “jib”.
Is Tina the same thing or is it something different?
- J.G.
Response from: NICK
Most drugs have several different “street names”.
Different communities and sub-cultures use their own language
and vocabulary when talking about drugs. For example, in Canada
people usually talk about “E” when referring to
ecstasy but in the United States they typically say “X”.
Cocaine has been referred to as Charlie, Blow, Whitney, etc.
often depending on the social circle with which one is associated.
Jib and Tina are just different names used for crystal methamphetamine.
Jib is a term that was used more often in the rave scene of
the 90’s. The origin of the name Tina is not clear but
it is almost exclusively used by gay men in North America.
Other names sometimes used for crystal meth include glass,
crank, tweak or simply crystal. “Meth” is another
term but confusion can arise as “meth” is used
within some drug using circles to refer to methadone (a substitute
for heroin). Speed is another commonly used to term for methamphetamine,
especially in the United States. However, here in Toronto
and, perhaps more so in Montreal, speed usually refers to
amphetamine – not methamphetamine.
