Getting Caught
I use meth all the time, all day long, even at work. I’m afraid of getting caught, but I can’t stop. Do you have any suggestions to help me or reduce my risks?

One of the problems with using drugs on a regular basis is becoming physically addicted. Some drugs, more than others, can be dangerous when you try to stop using them because your body can go into withdrawal. Although it’s really unpleasant, the withdrawal from stimulant drugs like crystal meth, is not physically dangerous or life threatening. It’s important for you to know that although it is really difficult you can stop or cut down your use. When was the last time you went for a day or a few days without using? It would probably give your confidence a boost to try this and know that you can make it happen. Sometimes doing this with a friend so you can support each other really helps. Perhaps you could set some time aside in your life to plan a holiday from your drug? Although you would likely experience a crash, the benefit would be that you would give your body a much needed break and challenge your belief that this is something you can’t do. I’d encourage you to talk to a supportive friend or someone you know who is an experienced user who can tell you what you can expect when you take a break from the drug. The longer you go using all day long, every day, the higher your drug tolerance and physical dependence will get, and the more likely you will be to wear yourself out. Perhaps you could set a date for your break and work towards that date by tapering your drug use day by day over 5 days or so. If you’re not confident that you could make a break in your life without some help then call for guidance. Most drug counselors will help you to identify some kind of plan that you feel is reasonable and workable for you. It really sounds like you could do with some change. Once you have experienced a break, you will have a better idea of whether being away from your drug for good is something that you’d want to work towards.
