How much do you know about crystal meth? Just want to learn
Tina trivia for a cocktail party? Take the pop quiz and see
how you do!
Which of the following is a
benefit of stopping crystal meth use?
Being able to get hard easier
Enhancing personal integrity
Reducing financial stress
Looking better All of the above
There are many benefits to stopping crystal meth use
and these are just some of them.
Some benefits are also experienced from cutting back
or limiting use.
Many dangerous chemicals are ingredients used
in making crystal meth. Which of the toxic chemicals
below is NOT used?
Camp stove fuel (Naptha)
Lye (drain cleaner) Carbon Tetrachloride
Muriatic acid (swimming pool cleaner)
Ephedrine of Psuedoephedrine (in some cough and cold
medications)
Carbon Tetrachloride is an old cleaning compound removed
from the consumer market due to its carcinogenic qualities
and ease of absorption through the skin. It is not used
in the manufacture of crystal meth.
How many times do you have to use crystal before the
dependence process can begin?
Once
2-5 times
6-9 times
10-14 times
15 or more times
While there are many variables that impact on dependence,
Tina is highly addictive. The brain imprints crystal
in the reward center of the cortex the very first time
you use it. Each time you use crystal after that, the
brain will recognize the drug when it enters your system
and will cease natural production of dopamine, thereby
beginning the process of addiction.
We have all heard that using Tina increases
our risk of contracting HIV, right? But, by how much?
Less than 10 percent
25%
50% 75%
100%
Study results vary. Some suggests that risks more than
double. We believe the risk is significant and that
is really the point we would like to get across with
this question. Crystal itself will not give you HIV,
but high-risk sexual practices, extended sessions, multiple
partners, immune suppression and injecting Tina with
dirty needles increase our odds tremendously. Also remember
that Tina users may not be truthful about their HIV
or other STI status, especially if we believe that disclosure
may ruin our chances of getting high and/or laid.
Crystal and Viagra™ taken together can
have this side effect...
Nothing
A ‘popper’ headache
An increase the rate of HIV production in the brain
Being more popular at the bathhouse Heart attack
We may have heard the advice not to combine poppers
and Viagra™ (or other ingestible ‘dick drugs’)
based on reported fatalities of guys using this combination.
Adding crystal meth into the mix increases the risk
significantly. All three overstress the heart individually
and when used in combination, are literally more than
the heart may be able to stand. Blood clotting and strokes
may also be an outcome.
Using crystal has harmful consequences on the
body. Which of these is NOT commonly attributed to using
Tina?
Rickets is a bone disease in which the bone material
softens and the bones bend. It has not been concluded
that crystal contributes to the onset of this condition.
Heart disease, gum disease, skin conditions, Parkinson's
disease and overall immune suppression are only a few
of the serious and long-term side effects that can manifest
as a result of crystal meth use.
Which famous dictator is believed to have been
a crystal meth addict?
Josef Stalin Adolf Hitler
Idi Amin
Fidel Castro
Leona Helmsley
Adolf Hitler reportedly became a crystal meth addict
during the Second World War. By the time of his suicide,
it is believed Hitler was receiving 5 injections of
crystal meth daily.
Tina is a nasty bitch. She is more addictive
than which of the following drugs?
coke
k (ketamine)
pot
e (ecstasy) all of the above
Tina is more addictive than all of these drugs and
many others
Crystal messes with your brain, but to what extent?
Which is NOT considered a mental health effect of using
Tina?
Depression
Brain damage Psychosis
Paranoia
Memory loss
Although the term ‘crystal methamphetamine psychosis’
has been coined and ex-users and others might experience
or describe psychotic episodes while under the influence,
the jury is still out on wither or not crystal meth
induced psychotic episodes meet the strict definition
of clinical psychosis.
If you are serious about breaking up with Tina, what
is the best way?
Abstinence
Controlled use
Support groups Detox
Nicotine patch
This is a bit of a trick question. All the choices
here may be helpful. The best way however is to make
a firm decision to stop using, and try and stay committed
to that goal as long as possible. Getting and staying
clean will make other decisions and situations less
overwhelming. This isn’t easy so accessing as
many supports as possible increases the odds. Slips
and relapses are common.
Environmentally friendly? NOT. How many kilograms of
toxic waste are produced during the making of one kg
of Tina?
1/2 kg
1 kg
3 kg 6 kg
None
Because of the volume of highly toxic ingredients used
to make Tina, one kilogram of produced Tina yields six
kilograms of toxic waste. This toxic waste is usually
dumped illicitly. Cleaning up a crystal meth lab requires
a HAZMAT team, as caustic ingredients or their vapours
can burn skin, eyes, nasal passages, and other mucous
membranes.
Which is NOT a result of "cooking" Tina in a home lab?
Caustic burns to skin and eyes Localized hair loss
Toxic contamination of house/property
Noxious fumes
Risk of explosion
Unless hair is burned off by chemical exposure or a
crystal meth lab explosion, hair loss is unlikely to
occur as a result of manufacturing Tina.
What is the maximum jail sentence for possession of
crystal meth in Ontario?
1 month
6 months
1 year
5 years more than 5 years
The maximum jail sentence for possession and/or trafficking
of crystal meth in Ontario, as of August, 2005, is 7
years. This doesn’t mean you would get that amount,
especially on a first–time conviction but nevertheless
that is the maximum. Possession is defined narrowly
(any amount) and trafficking is defined broadly (sell,
administer, give, transfer, transport, send, or deliver).
What percentage of rehabilitated Tina users relapse
at some point in their recovery?
10%
25%
50%
75% more than 75%
This question is intended to provoke a bit of a wake-up
call. The actual study this question is based on quoted
93%. We’ve taken a more conservative approach
because the definitions are poorly defined and we feel
this number is over inflated. The fact remains that
Tina is a very hard habit to break and that is the real
point of this question. Some people are never able to
maintain permanent control over their use.
